Praia do Paraíso

Praia do Paraíso is just a few minutes drive north from the main harbour in Matosinhos. Everyday during low tide both professionals and amateurs come here to hunt from the cliffs, mostly octopus, barnacles, or bait for rod fishing. It's a tough job. The cliffs are covered in mussels and seaweed which makes them very hard to manoeuvre and the powerful waves are constantly breaking. Even in the summer the ocean is freezing. I spent a few mornings together with some regulars of Praia do Paraíso, photographing their traditional methods of fishing.
