Just north of Leixões in Matosinhos, Northern Portugals largest shipping port, lays the small beach Praia do Paraíso. It’s a common spot for hunting and gathering. People come down in the early morning to fish, mostly to collect Percebes from the rocks or to hunt octopus that would hide in small holes under the rocks. Recreationally for some but most people I spoke to sold their catch to the local restaurants and markets. It's hard work. The ocean comes in hard and even though I was there in July the water was absolutely freezing.
